Even if they don't have gender, they have the same lack of gender. It's gay, and certainly gay enough for people to complain about it.

Pearl is also gay, but Rose was not. I don't think it's about sex for the Gems, considering they can change their bodies to whatever sex they want, it's more about loving whoever you want to love, regardless of their gender, race, or anything else. Just love who you want, or something.
