Maybe they're tougher than they look, or perhaps they're souls will become vengeful ghosts after they're destroyed and kill you then

They’re Weeping Angels. They move when you don’t look at them. They move when you blink. There’s no time for a sledgehammer. He’s super dead the second someone looks away.
No but say the doctor sees a lot of timey-wimey things happening from his tardis, why not just bring a pickaxe just in case?
Also I don't think they'll turn into vengefull ghosts, I think if they would we'd have seen it allready...
The angels are damn terrifying.
A good case can be made that they are one of the most powerful beings in the universe, hindered only by not being able to interact with each other.
They are nigh immortal, can obtain energy from almost anything, are very intelligent, time isn't a concern for them and they can plan things out thousands of years in advance. As seen in the episode depicted (Time of Angels and Maze of the Dead) they can move through other mediums so you can't take photos or videos of them without them coming to life, and they control the thing projecting them (book, monitor, etc) to prevent you from stopping it happen.
They also appear to be able to either convert or become (or innately are) any statue you can think of, including huge ones like the STATUE OF LIBERTY.
They cannot be killed by regular physical means as they become indestructible when observed (or rather, they cease to exist, and if the statue left behind is destroyed it will reform once no longer observed).
They can also move at "the speed of time" which is presumed to mean the speed of light, although they don't seem to use that ability very often. They are incredibly strong, with very little being able to hold them back if they are given time to work on it and, provided they have the energy, are technically capable of "killing" you with a single touch.
They also have many nicknames including "Lonely Assassins" which happens to be my previous username,
The angels are the scariest. Being sent back in time so they can live off the lost energy of your potential future isn't even all that painful - of course, then there's the angry ones that just choke the life out of you, but I think that's the exception not the rule (?) - but it horrifies me all the same. Plus the whole "only move when you don't see them" thing and moving at the speed of light. Eeeek.
In the episode, they snapped people's necks but that was because they were weakened after thousands of years of dormancy. Once they had regained enough energy they would have started sending people back in time again.
Which reminds me, they can also produce "Perception Filters" which stop people noticing them if they don't quite fit in or had suddenly appeared somewhere new. It doesn't make them invisible, but you just never think twice about the new statue that just appeared in the park or something.
