It's because people in general are more comfortable with the familiar. They'll let their freak out once in awhile. But they'll always come back to the comfortable. And the goal is to sell.
I mean I like music you can dance to but I also like music I can sing to without getting 90% chorus mess
Plus, " simple " my add when " who run the world girls " took 14 writers. Like how ?
Well, when you write with the intent of selling to a larger and larger audience, you simplify as far as you cam and stick to the working formula. Pop is only one genre though, you can find plenty of Alternative radio stations playing what would have been considered good, mainstream music before it simplified so much.
the various sub-genres is what makes it great. whenever I get bored I switch to another subgenre, then whenever I feel like it I go back to the previous one.
yeah exactly, I mean I like folk metal the best (one of the more diverse genres) but sometimes I want to listen to prog, or death, or black, or power, or... and so on.
Yeah, I noticed we seem to have had a distinct lack of classics for over a decade, I think.
It's even more obvious this time of year, when you realize all the Christmas classics are old as fuck now.
I totally despise pop, well at least what it is today.
But I love :
Jazz.
Funk.
Progressive rock.
New Jack Swing.
Oriental music. (By oriental I mean Arabic-Indian-Pakistanese-etc. . Not so much traditional chinese or japanese music.)
...
Anything with a real solo in it
Anything that isn't conventional
...
Also video game ost but they are mostly of the genres I cited earlier
Pop isnt a genre we just started calling it one._. Its supposed to be the popular music from all genres. Things went astray when it turned into a genre and songs were subsequently designed to be pop instead of it being the popular songs from different genres
