I think they need extra space for some reason.

Well, they paid for it so nobody is allowed to bitch about it.

Be careful though. I recently read a news column that a guy who did this still got and had to pay a ticket because the law said all cars must be parked between the lines to be legally parked.

I have to say though the other two vehicles are parked so close to the lines he'd be lucky to be able to open his car door to get in or out.
