Parents should bring the cool toys. Santa brings the socks and books and practical things. That way when your kid is telling their friends about the super cool awesome new toy Santa brought and some other kid starts crying bc Santa doesn’t like them since he only brought a baseball glove or some shit... not all parents can afford the extravagance of Santa. So Santa brings practical things here.
So my husband asked me this when we had our daughters first Christmas.
I told him we tell her Santa gave her the gifts because we want her to believe in magic and fairy tails we want her imagination to grow and right now we tell her about Santa and the tooth fairy and the easter bunny but one day she will figure out these people are not real and that we her parents have been buying these gifts for her and we were the ones hiding the eggs every year and we were the ones slipping that dollar under her pillow and taking her tooth. I mean think about it do you say "When I was 8 Santa brought me a new bike for Christmas." Or do you say "When I was 8 my parents got me a new bike for Christmas."?
I gotta agree with you mrscollector, let the kids enjoy the magic of the holidays while they're still young enough to believe. In the end they'll know who made the magic and the gifts happen for them and will appreciate it. Besides most of the time they dont read the gift tags of who its from, they just check if their name is on it and start ripping! Either from Santa or Mom & Dad, in the end they'll know it was all from good ol' Mom & Dad.
