You'd probably be surprised at what you do know but most likely would never be able to tell them because if you go back too far you wouldn't be able to understand what they're saying and vice versa even if they're speaking the same language. Don't know about you by my Middle English is a bit rusty and you can forget Old English. They didn't even spell things the way we do and anyone could spell a word however they liked cause there was no set spelling of things.

U-huh and where do you get the magnet from? Are you going to make the coil yourself or are you going to get someone to make it for you? How will you explain what you need or what you've got when you won't be able to speak the language? Oh and if you act too crazy by their standards they'll think you're possessed and either kill you or try to let the demons out, which often kills you anyway.

people can make simple magnets kinda easily, you can like rub fur against metal. Plus magnets have been used as early as 600 BC, so it'd probably be not too weird to ask for one during an era where medieval peasants exist. Any earlier and you're probably fucked. If they think you're a witch, threaten to kill them with magic or just run like mad!

Sure but it would be a really really weak magnet. And you'd have a hard time asking anything when you wouldn't be able to understand even basic words let alone asking for a lodestone.
