I could understand this being a precaution taken for hiring flight attendants, but it says they do it for all female employees, meaning the ones working within the airport as well, which is pretty messed up.
Actually the weight does matter. Each magazine in those front pockets adds about 12 cents in gas to the flight, which is why adding extra carry-on bags for passengers is so over expensive. The weight of a pregnant flight attendant does cost a lot more money in the end. Not to mention the health risks of high altitude for the child and the possibility of going into labor with no doctor around.
This airline forced women who wanted to work there to have a pregnancy test to see if they were pregnant. If they were, the airline wouldn't hire them, which is very derogatory for pregnant women
Also a pretty smart business move. It would suck to hire a woman only for her to take months of paid leave after only a few months of work. Even less if she's a flight attendant.
Also I rather not hire someone and 7 months later I have to let them take at least 6 whole months off cause they have to take care of their baby
AND I have to pay them for those months off
Like it just costs too much and doesn't even bring back that much benefit for the company
