As someone who plays dnd and hopes to be a dad one day (ya playing dnd significantly reduces my chances but screw it i love the damned geme leave me be) this warms my heart
My cousin who DM'ed for us tried to set the adventure so we would kill the werewolf cult plaguing the town, but we ended up joining up and converting the entire town to the Wolf God Religion that the Werewolf Druid was espousing. Hell, one of our party members voluntarily offered himself up to be a werewolf.
One time we were supposed to stop an evil cult, but we ended up joining it in exchange for our hearts’ desires. Then we burned down a building to steal them a special sword, gave it to them, and unleashed a hell dragon that killed a village. We also took on a job to kill an owlbear, and ended up killing its children and using that to lie and get the reward, while the actual owlbear wreaked havoc on the town after we left.
I did this in my first game. My friend gave me a wolf pup that turned out to be stolen, and the pack tracked us down. Luckily, I could communicate with them, and after a brief chat they took back the pup and gave me the alpha’s nephew, who needed to be taken down a few pegs. I’m very attached to him.
