As someone who works in the sciences, mechanical engineering, I can say with absolute certainty that we try to avoid the imperial system whenever possible(easier said than done in America unfortunately). The only reason we still use it in America is that it would take billions of dollars to switch over to the metric system.

We'll switch eventually but in the foreseeable future, it's not going anywhere.
