The person who taped over the window put scotch tape on the paint. While they meant well that type of tape has a high chance to damage paint. Given the cost of a good paint job I'd rather have a wet interior than paint blemishes. Of course- if it was a monsoon I'd feel different. If you must put tape on a car use "blue" or "green" automotive painters tape. It can still leave residue and all tape has some chance of damaging paint, but automotive tape has the lowest chance and uses special adhesive that is meant to be used in automotive paint without chemical damage or peeling.
