she was clearly using him to get a free meal and maybe it will teach her a lesson but him sneaking off isn't right either i guess nobody wins because of people that do both of these things everyone pays the price due to people being more suspicious about the others motive

Yeah, should have just asked for separate checks and at least paid for his own items. He even could have gone to the hostess or server and requested his part of the bill separate, paid his, then left without going back to the table and still had the pleasure of leaving her there.
