Kids are very easily coachable. It's just that some parents force their kids into sports when they don't want to play. The issue isn't the kids; it's the parent who is uncoachable.
Participation in youth sports should be compulsory to an extent. Youth athletics programs offer valuable lessons in teamwork, responsibility, fitness, discipline, following instruction, coordination and more. Parents should encourage participation, but not try to force excellence.
Way to go being “that lady”. Please note my “to an extent”. No shit, people have legit physical limitations. (Also I’m a volunteer youth athletics coach, I have asthmatic kids in both of my teams. My best athlete is asthmatic)
I’m annoyed as fuck with your pathetic knee jerk comment. Curling, diving, table tennis, hockey or soccer goalkeeper, jumper, skier, just examples of a few sports asthmatics can excel at. I have an asthmatic sprinter that went to regionals the last two years. One of my forwards (soccer) is asthmatic. I know a skilled basketball gyres with asthma. Stop making excuses. Do NOT tell a mildly disabled child that it can not try to compete at some level. YOU are what’s wrong. Want to talk to my manager?
I'm not being "that lady", I was that child. I was the kid who passed out on the track because the coach said I wasn't "pushing myself enough". I had a coach refuse to let me go to the nurse to use my inhaler because she said I was just using it as an excuse to go inside out of the heat. So no, I don't think kids should be forced into participating in extra sports (PE is different) when its obviously not their strong suit and is in fact miserable for them and really don't give a shit if that somehow triggers you.
No, the philosophy does. PE in one thing, it gives them exorcise and teaches them healthy livestyle, but to force kids to also join group sports just because you think it builds character is wrong. If a child hates doing something and you force it on them all they are going to associate it with is those negative emotions.
I disagree
Life isnt only about employment
Job is an important part. Your job can define you. But its not all.
You need to be tough with children not so that they get employed but so that they become good decent honorable people
And a great way to do that is by playing sports. It provides fitness, team mentality, fosters responsibility, and encourages personal effort for group and self gain. It has many many benefits and if coached right has little drawbacks.
We didn't ask for participation trophies. Shitty parents who couldn't believe that their child wasn't the best did. Don't blame us for that shit. We didn't want them.
