I’d wager in the right hands it’s as safe as any hang glider

Well- lets start with a car. Then let's add another axis of movement. Then let's add that a mechanical or operator failure is much more likely to result in death or injury. I think it's easy to say there's more possibility for danger. Going back to cars- those have been in common use for near a century. How many people know mechanically how one works? How many really understand the physics behind its operation or are cognizant of them? When there is one hang glider, we can say that it is precisely as safe as the modes of failure possible. When we have people using them as travel.... well.... drive a round a little bit and tell me after getting off the freeway you'd feel safe if you were there with those same people, except all of you were zipping through the sky with balsa wood, self control, and the ability to have followed religious pre flight checks and maintenece between you and your loving maker. In that regard I would say a nuclear warhead is safe in the right hands too.

Better a car than a micro-light glider which relies on thermal currents. If you hit a cold pocket. That's it.

What is "best?" I doubt that would be a practical way to travel from one end of your hotel to another. It's not the safest way to travel, or most comfortable either. It requires either a drop off or external power source to work, and is too large to carry around like a skateboard. "Best" is relative, but outside a narrow range I do t think this qualifies. Fast? Not terribly. Unpowered light gliders tend to travel about 30mph. Bicycles do a leisurely 25mph, but a fit rider can keep a pace of 45moh on flat ground, the humble skateboard does about 15mph on the same. Since the glider needs a hill though- the world record for down hill skateboard speed is over 87mph. As for cheap- a glider can cost easily thousands or tens of thousands of dollars just to buy. That doesn't include maintenece, storage, transport etc. it would seem that more common vehicles compare favorably in all areas and have more versatility- likely why we don't see more people traveling via glider. claim: 80%+ false.
