It’s against the law to let your children play outside unsupervised, it’s the nannystates fault.

This is changing in Utah, with a "Free Range Parenting" bill that was just passed. The bill clarifies that parents can let their 9+year old go to school, parks, and stores, etc. and that cannot be considered neglect.
Well-intentioned (or ill-intentioned) neighbors and curmudgeons can no longer report you to police or CPS for leaving your 4th grader in the car while you're grocery shopping.
It's the fault of the news for scaring parents into thinking every child gets kidnapped or abused if not constantly supervised. The real number is insignificant, I'd like to inform you, but I'm a lazy piece of excrement.
Practically everyone can point to some mistakes their parents made that made them tend to do something wrong. I saw a 12 year old lick a serving spoon after serving herself each spoonful of mashed potatoes, and one younger kid liked to torment animals. But at some point, you are responsible for your own actions, even if you have to unlearn and relearn certain behaviors, actions or habits.
