Indeed when you read the story iT likens their upbringing to a cocoon of chess spun by their father. It’s hard to imagine they were given the same nurturing care that most children do from their parents. Which unfortunately comes with child prodigies they are almost always their parent’s cash cow.
Yeah. I think it’s best not to confuse “genius” with ability in a particular area. The intangible trait of humanity is, to me, an important part of being human. While they are amazingly successful, efficient, and purposed- insects aren’t what I aspire to for society. The old saying “jack of all trades and master of none” is truncated and misunderstood. The whole saying means that it is better to be versatile in many areas you are ok at and be good at one or two things than to be a master of one thing but not very good at most others. Life is about ballance, but society values results- at a point I think the cost is too high.
A genius is literally defined by having spectacular abilities in a particular area. Otherwise I agree with your views. But we don't know them, maybe they are also valid and happy members of society, these are not exclusive lifestyles.
Actually that is only part of the definition and not the definition. Another definition being a person that has exceptional naturalintelligence or aptitude. I could have phrased it better considering but I meant more in the sense of the latter- that your child won’t posses an image quality but simply be well suited to a task. I may be splitting hairs- but it’s more appropriate to say that Paris Hilton is “a genius at self branding” than to say “Paris Hilton is a genius” in my mind. Likewise it may be a bit misleading if I opened a school to teach 6th graders to be exceptional at walking or breathing and told you’d I’d make your kid a genius. As you say- being happy is in my mind the important factor there- but it’s coincidental. Being raised to be great at a game a child doesn’t have much say nor the wisdom of choice. A parents primary responsibility is to prepare and care for a child to survive and suceed in life, happiness is something we are responsible for ourselves.
