I had a friend who would do this. We'd go to watch a movie together and he'd pick out 3-5 similar gay boys falling in love movies and get mad when I didn't want to watch them when they're all the same.
As a bisexual I will readily admit to watching bad shows because of the gay factor. Or even worse, watching 6 seasons of something just because I know in the 7th season theres a gay character.
But isn't that good though? We don't want to watch a show that has gay characters simply because they have gay characters? Just like I wouldnt want to watch a show with straight characters just beacsue they are straight. It means it's normal to us. Well me at least. It doesn't matter who is falling in love, it matters if the love story is good or not to me.
The lgbtq+ community is so craved for representation that plot literally does not matter. We don't have the luxury of choice. We don't get to be picky. If we don't go and consume gay content such as shows and movies on the basis of bad plot, producers will misunderstand that boycott and stop making gay content for us to consume because they will assume that THAT is the problem in the equation.
Or they'll think they can get away with making shitty stuff because people will watch it for the sole purpose of having gay and you'll be stuck in a loop.
