I exclusively play single player games, and not for lack of internet either since I just recently got a 12mbps connection installed which considering I had a satellite internet that was basically dialup in the modern age it's a vast improvement and it doesn't drop out every time a cloud or stray bird moves overhead.
It's like Warcraft. It has everything in place to be a nice massive multiple experience but it's entirely possible to just go around single player style if you wish.
