There are only four seats where this is acceptable. The front two isle seats in first class, and the first 2 isle seats where business/coach start. Honestly, those are the best seats in business/coach though; you can put your feet up against the wall, or stretch them out in the isle ftw.
I like the way, way back of the plane, preferably the last row. Nobody can kick your seat, you're right next to the bathroom and the flight attendants too. Also, I'd rather wait for the plane to clear out then deboard rather than fight a bunch of people in an 18 inch aisle.
That used to be my reasoning as well, but I've come to loathe airports so I want to get out asap. I only take carry-on when I can and try to get as far front as possible so I can just bolt for the exit. With just carry-on I can pack enough clothes to run a week cycle with at least one nice outfit (If I need a blazer I'll wear that on the plane as to save space), even pack swim trunks and an extra pair of shoes and my sandals. As long as I can find a washing machine it's all good. If I have to take a larger suitcase it depends on the plane. If the engines are on the wing, then the back; if they are on the back of the plane, then right behind or right in front of the wing.
I honestly haven't had a crying baby in my past 50 flights. I had one lady give me a little gift basket in case her baby cried, but we had a smooth ride and that baby just slept.
I actually still have the unopened pack of earbuds lmao. I stuck them in this little mini-pack in my backpack because no matter what my backpack comes with me when I'm traveling.. and.. well.. who knows when I'll need them.
