Socialism isn't really the issue so much as it's the fact they rely on ONE FUCKING EXPORT for their entire economy; oil.
Economic socialism is still a stupid idea though, don't get me wrong.
Uhm. No.
Norway is as close to socialism as one can get, and they also rely on oil, yet you don't see Norwegians lining up outside markets to get basic toiletries.
The main cause here is an endemic and systemic behavior of holding on to power through corruption and force. It's ingrained in the culture of most of South America.
because they aren't a one-commodity economy dumbass. They export over $11 billion worth of fish a year, which, for a country of just over 5.2 milion is insane. They also export aluminum, electronics, ships, medical equipment, iron, and nickel. Oil is 57% of their exports, for Venezuela it's 91%. That's not even FUCKING CLOSE. Not to mention Venezuela has 6 time's the population but produces less than half the oil Norway does. How fucked up is that?
Also, BECAUSE Venezuela only really exports 1 thing, they don't have the tools to build up their infrastructure to even be good at it.
Also, government socialism =/= economic socialism. smh.
A venezuelan over here, the bill (100 bolivar's) this purses are made of doesn't worth even a cent, it has no value, because of this people use it for this kind of things. Yesterday there was a wage increment of 200%, guess what, it's now 2,2$ a month. It's fucked up..
