*they're. Because, yes, I had to go there.
That said, I don't see any logical reason why you're advocating for a behaviour and then saying you don't engage in it.
Even if someone IS not understanding what you want, as long as they're not being belligerent about it, and genuinely trying to help, there's no reason to be an ass. Just ask if there's anyone who might be able to help them or you, or, as you say, try again later.
Some people have learning or communication difficulties, and God knows we've all had days where we look back and it's like "god damn, how could I have been THAT stupid." And it's not like customers don't come in with questions/concerns/scenarios that are completely ridiculous.
People aren't machines. Employees shouldn't be held in hostage situations where they're forced to tolerate abuse all because dickhead number one threatened to explode all over head office's wall, and head office has no interest in having the employee's back unless there's been a murder.
Never be dickhead number one. If someone is a dick first, and you respond, that can be a different matter. But don't be the problem and then complain there's no solution
Try being customer support on the phone. People get really bold and obnoxious when they don't have to look you in the eye. I have learned to handle them well.
Happened to me last night when carding a group of 4 for alcohol
Friends of buyer: "we arent drinking it"
"I know, but I have to card everyone"
"You're a fucking bitch"
"Yah, well this fucking bitch doesn't want to go to jail so IDs or no alcohol"
They thought returning to the car would fix the ID issue. It doesnt so I refused the sale
People can be so self-centred. Especially about things like alcohol, so kudos to you for working whatever job you do that involves being on the front line of that particular headache.
I've Had a guy come into a store I worked at once and ask me and a coworker (who were stocking shelves) where some other store I'd literally never heard of before (like, at all, not in the area was.
My coworker hadn't either, and we told the customer this. He immediately got annoyed and said asked if we were serious or something. We said yes.
He got himself into a huge rage, declared us "fucking retards," and stormed out of the store.
I personally thought his behaviour was stupid and over fast enough to find funny in an "oh, humanity, how you love to test my faith in you," kind of way. My coworker was extremely pissed off, though
It's sad that this even needs to be said. I get customers that will complain for five minutes about a transfer. In the time you've spent complaining, you could already be done.
