I’m not saying you’re an idiot if you’ve ever fallen in a toilet but falling in a toilet is an idiotic thing to do and there is no excuse for doing so.

So how do you go for a shit? Do you just hover above the toilet or something? Or do you just will your poop into another dimension?
Before I sit I look to see if the seat is down. Kinda similar to how, before I sit in any chair, I make sure it is located where my ass is going to go.
Do you tend to fall a lot when sitting down to dinner because the chair is in another room?
No as my kitchen and lounge are in one room. With a toilet one would assume the seat it down anyway (because why would anyone leave it up? That's rude) plus the fact he was half asleep is why he fell into the toilet.
The only reason someone would think it was rude to leave it up is because they want to be able to lead ass-first in the dark half-asleep and when their neglect to take precauations has them to sitting in the bowl they get to blame someone else.
Why is it ok to leave the lid up? Have you ever sat down on the lid by accident? Why not? If you can check for the lid, you can check for the seat.

It's rude because people other than yourself may need to use it so it should be put into the position where people can use it as is without alteration because putting the seat up is personal preference. Regarding the lid, most people leave it up for the next person using it, when in actual fact the toilet should be completely closed upon flushing so bacteria from the toilet and "leavings" doesn't plume into the air.
In the end if you live alone do what you like but if you don't, are at anothers home or using a public toilet you should be considerate.
You’re deflecting the point. Whether it is rude or not to leave the seat up, falling in the bowl because you fail to check whether you are sitting on anything is idiotic.

I never said it wasn't. People do stupid things when they're half asleep.

If you fall into a toilet, you deserved it. The only way I can coceive that leaving the seat up would be inconsiderate is if the owner of said toilet had no arms. Do you have eyes and arms? Are you a fairly functional person? You should be able to use your eyes and hands to check if the toilet is the way you like it and then fix it if it isn't.
If you want something done, you're responsible for seeing that it's done. It doesn't fall to other people to babysit you just because you're a nit that falls into a toilet. Like I dunno, that sounds like a personal issue to me but sure blame other people for your potty predicament. Why would falling into a toilet be your fault?
As peachypersimmon said, leaving the lid up when you flush the toilet invites a huge amount of bacteria into the air in your bathroom. Which resolves nothing, I'm just throwing that out there
