Both big companies, cnn and fox, spout tons of fake news. Neither of them are innocent or better than one another. Just look for a non biased news channel. Irs hard, but worth it

If the world were so simple it would be a marvelous thing. But it is not. “Big” news owns most small news to some degree. If not by direct ownership, by being in the same “umbrella” of conglomerates. If not the same umbrella then by virtue of similarity. There are only so many broadcasters and telecoms, the people who own the physical and expensive equipment and infrastructure to transmit information. Often these telecoms are again- in the same umbrella of companies as big news. Then there’s bias. Someone always pays the check, and if you want to be in business tomorrow that is who you work for, not the viewer. Small indie outlets may avoid this- but then you have to balance that against scope, access to information, accuracy, and of course- personal and editorial bias and politics. All humans are bias and even an unbiased opinion can carry a slant if the language used implies a bias to the subconscious. It can steer the reader. You have no way to verify bias or validity unless.....

.... you do the research and fact checking yourself. However you still have personal bias (in science it’s a huge problem- people making research conclusion based on what they are trying to prove in their work versus what the work is proving.) Then to get the whole story you need sources and accounts. Each has their own bias and faliable memory and perspective. Each has their own bread buttered by someone and may not be willing to give “full” information that would jeopardize their finances or security, their future prospects. In the end you can find the news source you trust the most- but who we trust is based on our own bias as well. Like anything there are some that are worse than others of course- but being able to verify isn’t 100% possible. News is as much a matter of faith as religion. We take someone else’s word despite possible self motivations on a burden of proof that can never fully be met.

If you still believe all the Pepes are racist, you should maybe stop watching the news for a little while.
