I'm not sure it was the *worst* movie I've ever seen. It was kind of like if a bunch of median-budgeted Cosplayers got too enthusiastic and asked "hey, what if WE made a movie???" And then that happened.
And it's a Japanese movie, not north American made. So all the actors are Japanese, which is ironic, because FMA is one of the few series where having Americans/white people play the title characters would make sense, seeing as how race plays such a big role in the manga (Amestrians, Ishvalan, Xerxesians, Xing..ians? Xingese?)
Editing to clarify-- I was saying it's Japanese in response to timebender asking if it's "like the last airbender," which was made by an American company iirc. I wasn't trying to imply it being Japanese had anything to do with me disliking it, just that America and Japan tend to approach live-action anime movies somewhat differently. Realized that my wording may not have been ideal at the time, but that was my only reason for bringing it up. :)
But I was kind of excited and at the same time leery when I heard about it, since there's no way you can fit all the content of either series into one movie. And they didn't. The plot gets shuffled around once again. I think Roy is being hunted down at one point?
Idk, it's not a terribly coherent movie, and the ending resolves nothing at all If I remember right.
Also, just on a personal note, while I don't mind the woman who played Lust, they murdered her outfit, and nearly every scene with Winry made me cringe. Especially when she screeches at Ed. The guy who played Hughes wasn't bad, though.
I actually liked the movie (and yes, I watched both series and read the manga...). I think they actually did a good work to summarise such a complex story in a 2hours+ film. My only deception was Winry (because she wasn't blond) and the end (with Lust and her philosophal stone).

Idk I thought the Tucker bit was just awful. I'll also never forgive them for cutting out Hugh's daughter.
The thing is they didn't really summarize the story, they just kind of picked out pieces and left a huge bulk on the cutting room floor. Some of the main elements are there, but not presented quite right, and are missing their main components.
I'm not sure why Winry wasn't blonde since they managed to provide wigs for everyone else (even the actors who likely already had black hair). Her part in the movie seemed very unnecessary overall
All in all, it's an okay movie, but I think it would have been better if they had done two movies or such maybe.
@aspy523 I agree they kind of just shoehorned tucker in, and then it was like they couldn't decide which version of the anime to go with for him. I understand them taking Elicia out, also, but she's such a huge motivating force for Hughes and his character...
Idk, maybe I'm too close to the series haha
And here I thought the Last Airbender movie that doesn't exist had scared them off...
