Not really the only way regional names work. Hawaii and Hawaiian Islands indicate the same place. Italy and Italian country, ect. The total of the place, whether country, region or city can go by it's proper name or by the possessive it followed by the clarifier. Ex: Alola, and Alolan Region.

You do know that it's from pokemon.. Do you?
"In the Alola region, a species' regional variant is referred to as its Alola Form (Japanese: アローラのすがた Alola form). A Pokémon in its Alola Form is described as Alolan — for example, Exeggutor in its Alola Form is referred to as Alolan Exeggutor"
Alolan = the pokemons in alola form
Alola = the region
Yes, I'm aware. Just because it's from Pokemon doesn't mean it has any different grammar application. It's still a proper noun. And again Alolan is the same as Hawaiian in my original statement. Alola=Hawaii Alolan=Hawaiian. Very simple concept. Hawaiian region would still be applicable to a the region on Hawaii. Just as Alolan Region would still be applicable to the region of Alola.

well, if it's from pokemon & in pokemon you use another term for it, why confuse people by using another term?if we talk about pokemon stuff and it's there alola and not alolan, then i think we should say alola. if we would talk about another stuff okay.. but while talking about pokemon it's just confusing people imho.
But what difference does it make if you already knew what they were referring to? That's the same as replying to point out an obvious typo that makes no detriment to the comment. Its just petty. If a single "n" makes it too confusing then maybe there's a bigger issue.

Well, i didn't before you mentioned it. And i bet there are other people out there who too just know it from pokemon and get confused. I mean.. If we talk about pokemon stuff and we then use a whole another term for something than it is used in pokemon.. That's just confusing as hell.
Alolan = the pokemons (from alola)
Alola = the region
