Aside from the baby, the dude's doing nearly everything else right. Standing bee-hind the hive and wearing adequate protection. However, I don't see any evidence of a smoker. Although, it could just be out of frame. The hives are spaced far enough apart to prevent bees from entering the wrong hive on accident. These are most likely breeder hives as there is only a single box per hive.
