Panthers are mountain lions, as well as cougars.
Unless you are referring to the large black jaguar, which isn't a panther but a genetic mutation much like a white tiger

But they are called black panthers, as are black leopards.

What about bobcats? Aren't they like the same thing?

No they're more related to Lynxes.

So the are like a cross between Mountain lions and raccoons.

More like a cross between a housecat and a bodybuilder.

@grimreaper, they are still not actually panthers. They are either leopards or jaguars with a surplus of the black\brown. The only actual panther is the Florida Panther, a subspecies of the cougar. Its a common mixup, because the term "black panther" is so popular, yet it's not an actual animal.

So, I shouldn't let one in for cat food and a quick use of the cat box? It's a big cat box. I understand cats like boxes.

Panther is just a catch-all term for many cats. Kind of appropriate, seeing as how all big cats belong to Panthera.

No, not all big cats, only lion, tiger, jaguar and leopard. Oddly enough the Florida Panther is not a member of Panthera.

Snow leopards and clouded leopards are also in Panthera.

I had actually ment to out an s at the end of leopard to include those, but my keyboard is wonky to say the least
