This haunts my nightmares

As Captain Kirk once wisely said: “You have to learn why things work on a starship.” It shows the difference between a procedural understanding and a conceptual understanding. 8-9= -1 10-1=9. If you have a basic understanding of the relationship between numbers and what you are trying to do, you can solve any math problem through just logic. Understanding that a plane flies when the pilot goes fast and pulls up on the stick is not the same as understanding the mechanical or physics systems behind it. I want a pilot who knows the latter and not just “go fast, pull up on stick.” Apply this to all of life. Ask and find out WHY things work a certain way. From taxes, to stocks, cars, careers, laws- if you understand WHY and not simply the procedure to get a result, you’re in a better position.
