My baby girl is a good dog, so I agree with this as well. She nearly never barks or howls, and when she does it's almost always because there's loud sounds around her that she doesn't like, like festivals or parties. But the kids living above us? Holy shit. Every time they don't get what they want, they scream at the top of their lungs. Every. Time. I feel bad for their parents because they are in the same room as that sound. This can happen several times a day, too, and sometimes even at night when me and my roommate are trying to sleep. (Most) kids are definitely louder than (Well-trained) pets. Of course, pets can make noise as well, but it's not that often. They're usually content with NOT screaming at the top of their lungs whenever they don't get the last chicken nugget.
True story : Last year my sis' upstairs neighbor complained about her cat being loud (poor thing feels really lonely when she's at work, so he meows soflty but often) and tried to have her fired from the building. Her response? An anonymous survey she sent all the other neighbours about noise in the appartments. Not one ot them complained about her cat, all of them had a lot to say about the poorly-behaved kids (and their yelling parents) that live, you gess it, in the appartment upstairs. Survey she then sent to the syndic. She's nice so she declined their offer of "doing sthg" about the loud kids, and she got to stay.
But there's a follow-up! Noisies had a new baby, they brought her at daycare and oh, guess who works there! They're a lot nicer now.
While it is bullshit that pet fees are a thing, some parents already have enough things draining them of cash, a child fee would make things even harder for them
As a landlord, pet fees are most certainly not bullshit. More often than not, the fees that we charge don't even cover the replacement cost for the carpet that your pet ruins when they urinate on it.
And if the carpet is even replaced, which is most apartment complexes it isn't unless absolutely necessary, regardless of how long the tenant was in residence.
Also, I can pretty much guarantee EVERY kid has peed on the carpet at least once, nit on purpose, but accidents happens.

All due respect to the landlords out there, pet fees at most apartment complexes are insane. Years ago before my wife and I bought a house, a typical pet fee for even a studio size apartment was $500.00 per pet. If it costs you more than $500.00 to replace the carpet in a studio apartment you're getting seriously ripped off by whoever you're hiring to do it.
But there's a follow-up! Noisies had a new baby, they brought her at daycare and oh, guess who works there! They're a lot nicer now.
