That's pretty true in Christianity actually. Worshipping (or even creating in literal interpretations) any type of figure, even if it is intended to be Yahweh of the Bible, is a sin and will result in eternal agony. I'm sure it applies to a few other religions, but I know for a fact that it's a fact in Christianity.
That's not true. Creating a false idol, yes, but not creating any literal interpretation, especially not if it is supposed to be God. Have you never seen a crucifix? I believe you are confusing Christianity with Islam. Unless of course you are referring to Jehovah's Witnesses, which isn't really Christianity any more than Scientology is.

Aww, someone who hasn't read the Bible is trying to tell someone who studies it about what the Bible says.
Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. [5] You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, [6] but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."
It makes no clarifications on the comments made in the first statement. You are not permitted to make anything that exists in reality. This could be interpreted to mean anything on Earth, but the Bible describes the Universe as a dome with Earth existing as the ground with the Sun, Moon, and stars existing as inside of the dome.
@celticrose, I know you meant well, but if you could at least do research into the topic at hand, then that would go a long way in preventing the spread of misinformation.
Ah, someone who doesn't understand that tge coming of Christ changed most of what was considered old law. I too have studied the Bible, as well as the law surrounding much of those circumstances. Aside from the vaugness of that first line, Old Hebrew law also forbad braided hair and eating of pork, which isn't part of the modern Christian practice either. It also required that if a woman was widowed and her husband had an unmarried brother he was obligated to marry her. That is also not commonly practiced in modern Christianity. Please learn the difference between the old Hebrew laws and the principals that should be practiced by Christians. Perhaps using common sense and logic rather than reciting ancient dictates would also help with stopping the spread of misinformation.
Also, the word you use as "image" is also translated more specifically as "idol". So you can make as image of whatever you want, just don't worship it.
“You shall not make for yourself [c]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments." New American Standard Version.
Can you give me the verse that says that? Because I know that the Bible says that Jesus didn't come to abolish the old laws in Matthew 5:17. You're making excuses here. You're trying to use Elmer's glue to patch together a sinking ship. You're better off just getting a new boat.
I'm not saying that Christians follow these practices today. We call people who do the things inside of the Bible "criminals". Christianity changed to match society in today's world which is an admirable thing that Islam should maybe learn. Just don't try to pretend that the bad things inside it don't exist.
The best translation of the most ancient scriptures, the NIV Bible, translates "pessel" into "image". I will always take the word of over 100 scholars using every available resource over the opinion of some random on the internet.
The NIV is highly outdated, and tends to translate from the Greek second hand rather than Hebrew directly. And I will take the word of a man who I actually know with multiple degrees including law, over a troll on the internet that is most notable for his repeated support/defense of pedophiles that's for damn sure.
Roman catholic here. If anyone was interested in knowing, Catholics use icons and images mostly to help focus our thoughts and prayers but we dont actually pray TO the statues/pictures (which may have important sentimental value or be blessed but is not inherently divine). Rather, prayers are directed to the thing it represents. Either way, the mishap is funny.
