As far as I know they are? Every place I've ever worked had had the right to ask for a sick note at the very least, and that could be the kind of proof they were asking for. Some document that said "I was receiving medical treatment during this time." I imagine even a bill would have worked tbh. I doubt they asked for a picture at all, but given it looks like she likely wouldn't have been able to provide any kind of actual medical proof, she decided to go this route

At my job, you have to provide a doctors note or you get a write-up, three write-ups and you're toasted.
