What they really mean is ‘you probably couldn’t handle my level of crazy’. But they present it as innuendo to entice you into being with them. Because they’re crazy.
I don’t want to “handle” anyone. I want a partner who can handle themselves, and together we can handle life to build towards our mutual goals. If I need to handle you, that means you can’t handle yourself. Maybe when you get your shit together we can talk, until then I wish you the best of luck on what will likely be a rough road I’ve already been down.
@guest_ Well said. You reminded me of a saying that I once heard - ‘Everyone comes to the table with baggage. The question is whether or not they have matching set with yours.’ In an ideal world, you’ll meet and both already be traveling very, very light.
