Pretty sure this largely depends on who's asking, what the offer entails, where they're going, and for how long

Very true. And some people it just doesn’t matter. Even if they aren’t worried about the conditions of the thing or the attachments and debt or perceived feeling of owing someone- there are people who just plain believe in carrying their own weight. A spouse, partner, family member- doesn’t matter. They’d insist that no one pay their way, or that it be balanced. Like you pay for plane tickets and hotel, I pay for a rental car and meals, and we split the other expenses some way. So man, woman, any person, may not take that trip simply because they don’t ride on other peoples dimes.
