Except we kind of do care about efforts. Think about the books you read, the movies you watch, the stories you hear. You kind of know how things end. What makes it interesting is the story, the struggle. If we only cared for the ending, we'd just skip right to the end.
Effort and the journey are different things. I don't care if a bad writer worked for twenty years on a book. If that book isn't better than one that took twenty days, then I'll care about the latter far more.
