I really think everybody gives ol' musky a little too much credit for Telsa's success. Sure he did, and probably still does to some extent, some of the technical work, but all he's done for them lately is cause problems by being a loudmouth.
They give him way too much credit in general. A lot of his engineering projects are complete failures that are literally impossible, but he pretends otherwise. Hyperloop being the foremost example. It's an impossible system that can't be done with any materials that exist, would be insanely dangerous, and a single air leak would destroy the entire system as well as killing everyone inside.
