It's usually more expensive to fix a person that got the full force of a car accident because their car didn't do anything to protect them and just let all the momentum transfer into them than it is to fix or replace a car that crumpled in the correct crumple zones.

Exactly right, the older the car the more likely you are to die in an accident. Having a car thats around an early 1990 model, makes you 71% (no seatbelt) and 47%(with seatbelt) more likely to die in a bad car accident. I think most people would agree that they prefer a car in shambles, as long as the person inside is ok.
