If that’s what I think it is, it is incredibly sweet, syrupy, and sticky. But it tastes like it’s been deep fired in maple syrup.

No but they are eaten with low fat yogurt sometimes.

Yeah you're right, there's an Iranian dessert similar to this but made with yogurt. It's called Zulbia and when you search for it Wikipedia says it's the same as Jalebi. They eat it in Ramadan

These are not originally/only Indian. They came from western Asia and are very popular in South Asian countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and even North African countries.
