There isn't nearly as much arguing and back and forth yelling as tv shows you. For the most part legal proceedings are fairly calm and logically calculated matters where facts are shown and conclusions are drawn. It's very akin to a proper science experiment in the manner that it is conducted.
It's more like every villain fight in anything. It's basically a battle of who can think more steps ahead. Well, it will be until the government accepts my proposal for disputes to be resolved by dance offs
You aren't allowed to be steps ahead in legal proceedings. All things you are going to use is legally required to be told to your opposition during discovery. All evidence is shared whether it is going to be used or not.
my ma's a lawyer and one time she was doing a crime case. A 29 yr old was raped and she was represting her (her lawyer) and she told me that she had to go out of the court because she started to cry.
Not surprising because way too often the defense attorney for the rapist will try to make the victim the villain and put her/him in a horrible light. It is literally part of their job.
Oddly enough, and as insane as it may sound, when my rapist was on trial and I was on the stand I almost ended up laughing in the defense attorney's face. Basically the case was so solid his only play was trying to make it appear I had not written my witness statement, and he did this by asking me to define the word "mollify", because it was in the statement. Even the judge had to ask him to repeat the question because he couldn't believe what he's heard. Needless to say, I was able to define the word.
