I was lucky enough to adopt mine. Somebody left him behind a foreclosed home and he was only 1 month old. There are a lot of good breeds like this out there around 1-2 years old, too. I'm guessing that people just can't afford to feed and take care of them these days. That's how I ended up finding his big brother (a Siberian Husky), I'm pretty sure. He looked malnourished and neglected when we adopted him.
Make sure you call or visit nearby shelters before you waste 1-2K on a dog from a backyard breeder, who usually has no idea what they're doing.
Thank you for this. It is so true. Please adopt. Even if you buy a "good dog" at a "cheap price," you're going to end up spending a whole lot more money on vet bills. Adoption only costs about 50-100 dollars (at my local shelter anyway) and the dog comes home fixed and vaccinated. Please adopt.
True! And buying dogs supports puppy mills and irresponsible breeding. You might think you're saving that puppy in the window, but really you're ruining the lives of over-bred dogs with the $1,000 you spent on a cute puppy. Adopt a dog that needs a home.
i agree with this, adopt by all means, but think carefully before giving an animal as a present/gift, the recipient may not have given it much thought on the care and life with a new pet and may not be able to look after them properly
I've never thought pets as gifts was a good idea. Maybe just go with the other person so they can pick out whatever they want, and pay for it yourself. That way you can discuss everything together, and not just surprise someone with a living creature that they are now responsible for, much like a child, for a decade or more.
I want a dog like that, when its scary nights, I want that dog to be like "KA-CHOW!" At the bad guy and I'm going to be like "woah." And then batman comes and saves me. The. End.
