Apparently this is because his name sounds like "todou" the mandarin word for potato. Makes me think about the time the Pope visited some place and in preparation they tried to make a bunch of shirts that said "I saw the Pope," but they mixed up El Papa with La Papa, so the shirts said "I saw a potato" instead. Which, tbh, is a shirt I'd much rather have

The Chinese translation of Trudeau is very close to the Chinese word for Potato

That’s actually funny considering The New York Times has a bias usually to the left, so it’s more of a compliment than ever
