Based on these headlines exclusively it does not say the journalists told coal miners to suck it up and learn how to code, it simply sounds like they made an observation: coal miners are learning to code, and maybe this is a good thing for them
Because the coal miners never complained in the immediate aftermath? I guarantee at least some of them did. :s everyone complains when something bad happens to them and I genuinely don't understand the vitriol being directed at the journalists right now. Eventually they're going to have to move on, or find a new job in the same industry, but that doesn't make it less difficult.

I guess I just don't hate the journalists enough or know enough about the situation to jump on the "Burn in hell like you deserve, journal-scum!" Bandwagon right now

I don't know, I think it's pretty reasonable to be upset if your thing is journalism and you get laid off from your job in journalism.
Shit, it's okay to be upset for getting laid off anywhere imo. Why are people not allowed to be upset?
Those top two are 5 years apart, both before the election. I kind of remember Hillary having an entire platform about re-training and updating the energy sector, specifically coal miners.
I'm just saying. I don't know exactly what point this meme is trying to make. People are bettering themselves? Fucking awesome. Good.
