The mother (named Lily) is a golden retriever who had a litter with a single puppy in it (Uno). After the three African wild dog (aka Painted dogs/wolves) puppies weren't receiving adequate care from their birth mother, the zoo separated them and brought in Lilly and Uno to help raise the puppies
