Eh, it doesn't really look that bad on it's own, but everybody's comparing it to Ron Pearlman's version. I'm just glad they're doing a new story instead of just yoinking golden army's storyline. That all being said I'm hyped for a hard R hellboy even if its not Ron and Guiermo's version
Agreed. You can’t replace Ron P, and Guiermo is an acclaimed director with a certain style. But that’s just how it goes. For a million reasons casts and crews can’t just keep doing spin offs or sequels or reboots of their own movies. James Bond is a perfect example. Many younger people who watch earlier franchise films won’t particularly get or like them. Times change as well- not all great or even good movies are timeless. While “veterans” may bemoan change and want more of what they love- people are also quick to get bored. Many people loved the expendables. They kept doing the same thing people loved every movie and that got old fast. So- I’m looking forward to it. The new guy isn’t as perfect in my mind for the role, that’s ok. To us old folks Ledgers Joker was good, but not our joker, not what we picture when we think of the character. That’s ok. It was still a very good movie. So too hopefully this shall be.
Meh. I’m fine with Hell girl. It doesn’t change anything, and we have no real reason to think demons would follow self labeling as binary gender. By human standards Hellboy seemed more masculine than feminine and so they called the demon Hellboy. Big, red, foul but sweet, kinda ugly, super powers, fights monsters. If you check those boxes what do I care? Do I give a shit if Godzilla is a man or woman? If you put a bow and lipstick on Pac-Man and call him Mrs Pac-Man does that somehow by itself completely change the game? So whatever.
Meh. Not every work of fiction is going to suit my tastes, and it’s always a rough road dealing with established characters and stories that are well trodden. People tend to like a brand for what it is known for, but audiences and artists get tired of the same thing over and over. Whenever you try and innovate you’ll have missteps, but that’s how we learn and hopefully improve. If you live long enough, you’ll see all the stories. With modern telecom and media even the average person gets exposed to more stories and versions of stories than would be possible for most through much of human history. Whole industries of people rely on having another story to tell. Eventually- a few will turn Godzilla into a Ficus. You shrug and get on with it.
Bet she gives a mean handjob.
