Rutiodon carolinesis, which means "Wrinkle Tooth", is an extinct genus of phytosaurid archosaur (a group of reptiles that convergently evolved alongside crocodillians and adopted similar ecological niches) that lived in what is now the Eastern United States during the late Triassic period. Despite it appearing to be a crocodile, Rutiodon had some key differences: namely the hump just in front of its eyes that held its nostrils like other phytosaurs (crocodillians have their nostrils at the ends of their snouts) and having an erect body posture. It was a large animal, measuring anywhere from 10 feet to 26 feet long and standing around half as tall as the average man. Rutiodon would've behaved like a modern crocodile, hunting for fish in the water or snatching large animals from the banks of rivers.
