I was so afraid that I was going to fall backwards and when you walk off I was scared that my toes would have got stuck

Those foam clog/slipper things from a few years ago often got caught in escalators and cut up toes, apparently, so your fears are not irrational.

My grandma was on the escalator right behind me and she fell back. She was holding on to me so I fell back with her....I was a terrified 5 year old but she made the fall be less painful....She's ok though

I'm sorry, but I would also be scared that HALF OF MY FLIPPING BODY IS CAUGHT IN THE ESCALATOR

If there are no normal stairs somewhere, I'm incapable of going up without freaking out. I absolutely hate elevators, and I'm afraid that on the up escalators I'll mistime my step and only half my foot will go on the thing before it goes up and then I'll fall backwards.

This happened to a girl once she was wearing crocs, and the rubber got caught in the escalator and her foot went in.
