Growing up you didn’t go anywhere without a pocket knife. Yes- even the airport. It was a tool. Opening packages, whittling branches or cutting small trimmings. Cutting rope or twine. Perhaps your mower blades got tangled up with something left in the grass? Maybe you need to cut an apple or slice some cheese? Yeah. It always seemed s little gross to me that people are with the same knife they used for everything else- but if it’s cleaned off I suppose it’s fine. But a good pocket knife comes in quite handy for anyone who works with their hands or has active and outdoorsy hobbies. There were Swiss Army knives and Later on came multi tool “leatherman” type gadgets. Even though a lot of the uses for a good knife are lost on an urban or suburbanite- it’s still handy for many things like opening plastic wrappers or removing zip ties from things you bought. A few ounces in your pocket or on a belt loop can really make life easier. When I see carvings in trees I just think its destructive.
