I once took a dog that a neighbor had found tied to a street sign. He had mange, but he was the sweetest dog ever. We couldn't keep him, but we gave him to my aunt, and she takes care of him now. She took care of the mange, and I still get to see him whenever I visit.

Idiots around me "rescue" a dog so they can tell everyone "it's a rescue" in some ridiculous attempt to make themselves look like good people, not the self absorbed assholes they are. The dog is then left in the yard as a decoration, forgotten about until I get tired of hearing it bark, howl, whine all day, all night, or get tired of being attacked every time I set foot outside my house and sue the owners. The dog is then returned to the animal shelter to wait for the next asshole wanting a new topic for their Facebook posts to pick it up. I wish there was an end to the story, but, unfortunately, this story just continues on like this for the foreseeable future.

A lot of people claim to have"rescued"animal and all they did was adopt from a no kill shelter, lol, that isn't a rescue, we all know a real one!

There's a few, so will just go with this one for now. My family once took in a puppy that some girls handed over in a 7-11 parking lot. Someone had put it into a dumpster and the girls had heard it crying and pulled it out and didn't know what to do with it, so my mom took it. She was a small black little puppy with a bit of white on her chest, and ears that were like a German shepherd's, but folded over 2/3 of the way up to the top. We took her home and cleaned her up and after a day or so we took her to the shelter I volunteered at. The plan was, if she wasn't taken or claimed by the end of 7 days (the shelter won't adopt before this period to give prior owners a chance to come forward) then we would take her. However, a couple did come forward and express interest, and since we already had several pets we let them take her. Last I heard they'd bought her a pink collar and named her princess and I can only hope she's had a good life since then.

Rescue animals all have such diverse histories and so many of them have trauma, I appreciate anyone who puts in the time, effort and persistence to let these animals feel trust and love again.

My late dog (Rose, a mixed breed of pug-labrador) was in a losing dogfight sometime in 2007. She tried to run away from them, but ended up getting ran over. My parents rushed to her aid and brought her to a hospital. Amazingly, she survived with only a permanent scar on her stomach (it didn't cause her any pain, though). She passed away 2 years ago after living a long, healthy life, happy as a clam the whole time.
