I wouldn't worry about it. When I was in elementary they had us memorize the 50 states of America. I didn't live in America. By the end of the year I couldn't tell you anything about Canada's history, but I could put the states on the map with about 90% accuracy.

@sunflowers Amsterdam is a city. It's like saying, "I live in the USA but not in NYC."

Lol, no it’s not the same. As someone who is conscious of the many cities outside Amsterdam in the Netherlands, it’s dififcult to deny that with Randstaad being a thing, that the whole country is essentially one large community. It’s a point you could easily make, given the geographic size and ease of transportation through the country.
In the US, LA, Miami, NYC, Dallas and Chicago are not exactly directly accessible from each other. Leave alone the hundreds of other, reasonably sized cities they have through the country.
I get what you’re saying, but you’re being slightly overly technical about something that Western Europeans aren’t obligated to know. You can’t speak to the details of China, or Japan or India, or Brazil’s internal cityscape knowledgably, even if you have a rough idea. Why are you calling people out on not knowing about your country?
