Not personally any more, no.
My mom gave my cat away while I was on camp, and gave me R5.00 for her, because she said my cat (S) bothered her cat (C) too much (S was there first, by a few years at that, and took care of C like a mother, but also ate his food).
She's also a bit older so not quite as keen to play with a little kitten anymore. This will be important later.
.
So then C became her-cat-shared-by-the-family, and kinda our cat I guess.
.
Then my brother got a kitten from a friend at school for my mom's birthday (she HATES surprises, and everything mostly had to go her way) and being the clever little kid he is, brings his friend along to show the kitty as she can't scold him there and outright reject the cat (like she normally would've done with an unwanted surprise) for fear of losing the nice mom look in front of his friend. So we had him (Ss) for about 3 months, I think? Then one day we had people come fix the geyser or something, and she promptly gave Ss to them...
... BECAUSE HE WAS YOUNG AND WANTED TO PLAY AND HER CAT WAS TOO OLD TO TOLERATE IT. Also, he ate her cat's food and liked to sleep in the one room her cat liked, but C didn't like Ss, so he was in the way. Anyhoo. Cheers cat.
.
Recently, C died of leukemia. My mom grieved quite intensely until my dad told her to please get a new cat since she wouldn't eat or anything, he was the family cat for 14/15 years, and we all really liked him.
.
So, now they got a new cat, Sss (I just add more S's as it goes on because they all start with S), which is also really adorable and now the new family cat.
.
So, to answer your question: yes, but, no.

@Catfluff I'm sorry, but I hate your mother, and I don't even know her. I can tell how much this bothers you, and you're right to let it. I am so so so sorry you've had that happen to you. I can't even imagine just having my pets given away.. that's like having a member of your family stripped from you.
.
I hope you're holding up friendo.
i’ve been having suicidal thoughts for years and my cat is the only reason im still here right now. everytime i think of dying, my mind goes “okay but who’s gonna feed her? i need to stay alive for that”. stupid reason but hey it works
*translated* I'll be your reason to live, fren.
