My car was stolen with both keys still in my possession. It's safe to assume it has driven further than I ever walked with that car's key in my pocket.

Sorry to hear. But valid point. Also- someone like me who has multiple sets of keys for house/vehicles, any one key may not have traveled further than the car. Other examples? Households which share cars. Take a wife and husband. One partner may not bringbtjeor car key if they aren’t planning to drive and the other has their key to drive. The partner who drives less will have a key which hasn’t traveled as far. Another: smart keys. I know a guy who had the smart key in his pocket. His wife dropped him off and she drive 600 miles before turning the car off and realizing she didn’t have the key. Another? A car is shipped from Overseas. The dealer loses the keys. A new key is made... the list goes on. I’ve had cars towed or transported thousands of miles without the keys in the car. Barn finds and the like. Another example. So.... not true.
