Enhydriodon dikikae was an extinct species in the family Mustelidae that lived in what is now Ethiopia during the Pliocene Epoch. They were massive relatives of modern otters, measuring up to six and a half feet long and weighing up to 440 pounds. Because of their thinner bones than other aquatic animals, it's likely that Enhydriodon spent more of its life on land, using their powerful jaws and teeth to hunt for shellfish and catfish. They also likely competed with crocodiles and large fish for food. It likely went extinct due to indirect competition with early hominids.
